Maritime Hiring Activity Index
Which shipping companies and maritime recruiters have the most public adverts in our approved directory? Compare observed public job listings by employer, seafarer profile and source type. Updated from our monitored vacancy database — no estimated headcounts.
Most active shipping employers & crewing recruiters — by visible job adverts
Our ranking measures distinct, currently visible maritime vacancy adverts (both quality-checked and clearly labelled partial-data listings) with a recorded date in the past 30 days. It does not count hires, employees, unique positions on the labour market or every vacancy at an employer.
Coverage note: this is an observed sample of public adverts, not a global employment survey. The source mix is shown after the data loads.

How is the maritime recruitment index calculated?
1. Public evidence only
We use the public, read-only vacancy directory. Fully quality-checked and owner-reviewed adverts are distinguished from recent partial-data entries, which can lack salary, geographic details or contract terms. Hidden, inactive and expired jobs are excluded. The original posting is linked, where available.
2. Comparable advertised listings
Listings are deduplicated by employer and source URL, employer name spacing is normalized, and only postings recorded within a rolling 30-day window are included. One vacancy advert counts once, not one hire.
3. Role and source breakdown
Broad role families are derived from job titles and sectors. Mixed, unclear or unclassified roles stay in “Other”. Employer-hosted listings are shown separately from third-party board adverts, which may be published by agencies.
4. Continuous source monitoring
Our existing source-import, validation and employer-link checks are scheduled at least daily. The index requests the current visible public dataset every time the page loads; it does not require a new Netlify build for new listings.
The ranking covers only what Maritime Bridge can observe and label. A company not shown is not necessarily recruiting less; different employer portals, geographic coverage, robots rules and job boards can skew the numbers. A recently recorded advert may have been published by the employer earlier. If our data feed fails, we show an error rather than invented or stale rankings.
How the Hiring Activity Score is estimated
For any advertiser with one or more distinct observed public vacancy adverts in the selected filters, we show a provisional relative signal on a 0–100 scale. This is not a hiring rate, hiring probability, vacancy fill rate or headcount forecast. One or two adverts receive an explicit Preliminary · small sample warning. Companies with no observed advert are unscored, not assigned a false zero.
Illustrative formula: 65% log-scaled public advertisement volume (capped at 25 adverts), 20% share that passed all detailed quality checks, and 15% share from independently checked employer career sources. Results are recomputed as listings change. If fewer than two direct employer listings are observed, employer-site coverage is labelled as limited. The formula is experimental, not externally calibrated, and does not estimate total company hiring; missing evidence means uncertainty, not inactivity.
Our reference universe begins with verified official shipping and port operator sources, alongside the independently published Alphaliner TOP 100 container operators. Alphaliner ranks shipping capacity in TEU, not recruitment. Operators without observed reliable adverts remain unscored; we will extend verified company profiles toward a maximum of 200, without fabricating scores or republishing protected tables.
Shipping companies included in our expanding market universe
Our monitored public-vacancy coverage is not yet representative of every shipping company. These established names provide a transparent reference universe for gradually expanding verified career-source coverage toward 200 companies. Being listed below does not mean an open vacancy has been found or a hiring score can be assigned. Companies with no observed adverts are treated as insufficient data, never “not hiring”.

Reference basis: Alphaliner TOP 100 container operators (capacity, not hiring) and the company official careers URLs linked on Maritime Bridge. Ro/Ro, ferry and terminal businesses are outside the directly comparable Alphaliner container TEU ranking. A future 200-company universe requires validated identities, sector labels, and official public career URLs; these names are a research watchlist, not a scraped dataset.
Maritime labour demand: the bigger picture
The figures below are independent research and contextual indicators. They must not be added to Maritime Bridge vacancy counts or interpreted as actual confirmed hires.
Primary sources: BIMCO/ICS 2026 workforce findings ↗ · UNCTAD Review of Maritime Transport 2025 ↗ · ILO Maritime Labour Convention ↗.
BIMCO/ICS quantify seafarer supply and projected demand, UNCTAD provide trade, fleet and port context, and ILO set employment and recruitment standards. They do not publish a comparable real-time list of which individual shipping companies have hired the most workers. Global estimates are refreshed on publication of a new authoritative source, not every 24 hours; the vacancy observations above are refreshed from our monitored directory.
Port and terminal companies recruiting worldwide
These official employer career pages are useful even when no individual job from them has passed our publication checks. Being on this list does not add a vacancy to the ranking; only independently verified job advertisements enter the index.

Which shipping company is hiring the most seafarers?
There is no universally complete daily public census of maritime hires. The table above ranks only advertisements observable within Maritime Bridge, not seafarers employed or placements completed.
Where can I find deck, engine or ETO vacancies?
Choose a role profile above and follow the corresponding listings on our maritime jobs board. Always apply through the original employer or vacancy source.
Why do shipowners and crewing agencies appear together?
They can both publish maritime vacancies, but are not equivalent employers. Use the source filter for employer-hosted advertisements (including approved official carrier career listings); third-party adverts are separately identified.
How frequently is the index updated?
It reads the currently approved vacancy directory when opened. Our underlying import and quality-check systems run twice a day, while official employer-link checks run daily. A source may be unavailable or temporarily blocked; this is shown through cautious coverage rather than assumed vacancies.
